Walk in Peace: A little bit of peace, starting with yourself

Please join us in a slow, silent walk in peace for peace.  Held the first Sunday of every month.  Most walkers agree that simply being outdoors for an hour with your own thoughts can be quite uplifting, stimulating, relaxing, who knows - everyone is different. And as there is no agenda except peace, each walker brings and takes away with them peace from their own perspective. Lecture: Terror and Consent: The Wars for the 21st Century

With the threat of terrorism now part of the landscape of daily lives all over the world, renowned legal analyst Philip Bobbitt offers a comprehensive analysis of the struggle against terror, and what we can do to win it. In his new book Terror and Consent, Philip Bobbit argues that we are fighting these wars with weapons and concepts which though useful to us in previous conflicts have now been superseded.  Bobbitt aims to provide a fundamental rethinking of most generally accepted ideas about terror in the modern world. Considering what it is and how it operates, he shows that we need to reforge the links between law and strategy to realize how the evolution of modern states, which have always produced terrorists in their own image, has now produced a globally networked terrorism. To combine humanitarian interests with strategies of intervention and above all to rethink what ‘victory’ in such a war, if it is a war, might look like – no occupied capitals, no treaties, no victory parades, but the preservation, protection and defence of human rights and of states of consent.  This event is free and open to all with no ticket required. Entry is on a first come, first served basis. For more information, email events@lse.ac.uk or call 020 7955 6043.  If you are planning to attend this event and would like details on how to get here and what time to arrive, please refer to Coming to an event at LSE

Public Rally: Racism the War on Terror and the Muslim Community

The "war on terror" has been a disaster for US and British foreign policy. As the situation worsens for the occupying forces in Iraq and Afghanistan, the propaganda assaults on Muslims continue unabated in the media, fuelled at every stage by politicians desperate to divert attention from their collusion in war crimes that have lead to the deaths of hundreds of thousands. Stop the War is co-ordinating a series of rallies with high profile speakers to help defend the Muslim community against this rising tide of racism. The first will be in London on June 3. Speakers include Moazzam Begg, George Galloway MP, Anan Al-Tikriti, Lindsey German, Louise Christian and David Edgar. Venue directions.
