Tannouri Photography

Lebanese photographer Clément Tannouri captures the magnetism of Lebanon in this stunning collection of photographs.  He states his two great passions in life are travel and photography. He believes that travel broadens one's view of the world. Experiencing other cultures, meeting people from other communities and countries and seeing the beauty, and sometimes ugliness, of the world has helped him understand that all of our lives are at once interconnected and individual. It has made him better appreciate his own home and culture as well as that of the people he has met and the lands he has seen and he has become a much more tolerant person as a result. Through his photography he seeks to document his own personal experiences, to capture scenes and events as he sees them and to share with others the beauty and diversity of the world he has seen.

His website demonstrates a wide-ranging portfolio and offers prints, poster, and book collections for sale.  Or just click and enjoy the beauty of Lebanon. www.clementtannouri.com

Qana

Dr Gideon Polya,Chief Political Editor for Media With Conscience (http://mwcnews.net) has created a tribute to Qana, Lebanon.  Describing the 2006 war in Lebanon, Dr Polya states that “Words fail at such barbarity. . . because words have failed I took up my paint brush in response to the Lebanon tragedy that was quintessentially defined by the destruction of Qana by the Israeli Wehrmacht.”  The massacre at Qana 2006, all the more painful for being a repeat of the massacre at Qana 1996, is depicted in a painting that derives conceptually from Pablo Picasso's famous "Guernica" (1937).  Dr Polya notes that “Peace is the only way but silence kills and silence is complicity. Each of us, in our own way, must speak out for the innocent. We are obliged to inform others about abuses of humanity and to act ethically in our dealings with all those complicit in such abuses.”

For more information on the painting see http://mwcnews.net/content/view/9547/26/.

The Other Lebanon

Visit this website and treat yourself to a festival of photographs that show the natural beauty that unites all of us who love Lebanon.  You can not only view the photos, but you can purchase on-line the books, calendars and postcards.  Pascal Beaudenon, a photo journalist from the South of France, presents a collection of photographs in a book appropriately entitled The Other Lebanon.  Forget images of war for a moment.  Beaudenon is, says the forward to his book, “determined on showing the Lebanese that their real country is much more than a mass of cement buildings, and that it dwells in the hills or on the small breaking waves, few kilometers away from the frantic race against time and the dollar rush; where beauty becomes certainty and every day's reality is seen from all angles.”  Beaudenon’s work is a timely reminder to us all: we should treasure “this other Lebanon that is out there. Let us learn to see it through the eyes of Pascal and preserve it, so it remains, as it has always been, and just like in the book, the place where all colors mingle; and where every morning, the sun shines its lights on a spectacular diversity.“ http://www.pascalbeaudenon.com/

Lebanon Art

LebanonArt.com offers a splendid visit with Lebanese artist-painter and poet, Joseph Matar. The site presents itself as a veritable gallery of high distinction with its achievements of beauty, its emotions, its sentiments, its humanism and its many expressions of the age we now live in. LebanonArt holds a place where, through the artist's brush, his colours, and his lines, through forms, rhythms and words, all those who wish to create a better world for tomorrow express themselves. On every canvas, the interplay of line, colour and volume falls into place of hard struggle, like the victory of a strategist or like some great symphony.

The site is well worth visiting to experience the visual artistry and poetic treasures of Joseph Matar.  It is also a unique opportunity to purchase on-line postcard, album and canvas reproductions of his work.  The site is accessible in English, French, Spanish and Arabic.  Click here to enjoy: www.lebanonart.com.

A Lebanese filmmaker of Palestinian origin, Carol Mansour studied in Montreal, Canada, and currently lives in Beirut, Lebanon.  In 2000, she co-founded Forward Productions, a studio specializing in video and audio production.  Her work as a director and producer focuses on socio-economic issues.  Her documentary on the street children in Cairo, “100% Asphalt”, won awards at both the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris and at the Arab Film Festival.

Mansour’s 2007 documentary “A Summer Not to Forget” tells the story of the war on Lebanon in July 2006.  Winner of the New Zealand Film Festival’s “Best Short International Documentary,” the film captures a perspective of the war that goes beyond the facts, beyond the emotion.  It studies the horrific realities of the summer of 2006.  But it does not stop there.  It also exhibits a people struggling to understand why they were left to suffer these realities.  Unique and compelling, “A Summer Not to Forget” is truly a film you will not forget.

In May 2008, Carol Mansour joined Friends of Lebanon for the London premiere of this remarkable documentary.  Click here to view her introduction of the film and to view sample film clips.  To receive a copy of “A Summer Not to Forget” please forward £10 donation to Friends of Lebanon by on-line transfer (details here).  Please note that your donation covers production costs only; there is no financial profit to the Friends of Lebanon organisation.
